Tourism Madagascar : Sector in need of personnel

Encouraging young people to take an interest in the tourism industry

Madagascar has been experiencing a rise in visitors annually since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Jöel Randriamandranto, the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts (MTA), speaking on national television on April 22, 2024, he voiced his concern over the shortage of workers in the tourism sector.

The Ministry aims to attract over 2 million visitors for local tourism alone and has implemented measures to meet this growing demand. In the tourism sector, more than 6,000 students in their first and final year of secondary school have undergone training to spark their interest in this field for future university studies.

To boost domestic tourism, over 5,000 tourism professionals have been trained in English, recognizing that our target audience is not limited to French speakers. The Minister emphasized that promoting tourism also hinges on enhancing infrastructure, safety measures, and increasing flight frequencies.
