Qatar Airways Expands Reach with Seven Weekly Flights to Madagascar

Qatar Airways is set to solidify its footprint in the Indian Ocean region by announcing its operation of seven weekly flights to Madagascar.

On January 26, 2024, the Civil Aviation of Madagascar (ACM) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the State of Qatar formalized this significant expansion through a cooperation agreement. This collaboration positions the Big Island to forge a new air link with the Middle East via Qatar Airways. While the precise commencement date for these flights remains undisclosed, each journey is expected to cater to approximately 300 passengers, according to Valéry Ramonjavelo, the Minister of Transport and Meteorology.

Qatar Airways: A Globally Recognized Airline

As Qatar’s national airline, Qatar Airways has already made a mark with a vast network covering over 170 destinations worldwide. Renowned for its commitment to excellence and innovation, the airline secured the title of « Best Business Class in the World » at the 2023 World Airline Awards.

In the fiscal year 2022-2023, Qatar Airways witnessed an impressive 41 % year-on-year surge in annual revenue, reaching a record 21 billion USD. However, it also reported a net profit of 1.21 billion USD, reflecting a 21 % decrease compared to the previous fiscal year’s 1.54 billion USD.

Strategic Move for Madagascar

Qatar Airways’ decision to expand its aviation services comes at a crucial time for Madagascar, as the country aims to attract one million foreign tourists over the next five years. Actively seeking partnerships with major airlines, especially in the Middle East region, Madagascar endeavors to enhance its international connectivity, paving the way for new economic and tourism opportunities on the island.
