National tourism : Encouraging statistics

Promoting national tourism potential among the population

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, the latest statistics reflect positive momentum in the tourism sector. Domestic visitors have doubled over three years, from 2020 to 2023.

In recent years, domestic tourism has represented a significant portion of the tourism industry, with a potential of 2 million domestic tourists. The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, in collaboration with the National Tourism Office, continues to promote activities to develop the local market and generate interest among the population to explore Madagascar.

For its 7th edition, the Tourism Deals Fair, known as Tsenaben’ny Fizahantany, will be held at Antaninarenina Garden from March 15th to 17th, featuring many offers and new circuits. Furthermore, authorities assert their ongoing efforts to raise awareness and formalize tourism operators in their fight against the informal sector. This initiative aligns with the government’s priorities in promoting good governance.

Lastly, concerning human capital in the tourism sector, the Directorate of Professionalization and Tourist Regulation organized an awareness session on tourism careers in Antananarivo. In collaboration with Conforth (Consortium of National Training Organizations in Hospitality and Tourism), this intervention targets final-year students of the L and OSE series to inform them about career opportunities in tourism, hospitality, and catering sectors and the required training to access them.
