Issues regarding VAT arrears reignited

Seeking a mutual interest agreement

The Minister of Industrialization and Trade, David Ralambofiringa, recently held a meeting with the Group of Free Enterprises and Partners (GEFP).

Various projects were discussed during the meeting, with a particular focus on the issue of delayed VAT refunds. This topic requires further dialogue between the government and private-sector unions. The Ministry has decided to swiftly resume discussions, especially concerning VAT, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to seek resolutions. Significant progress had already been made earlier in February on this matter.

As a result of this initiative, the key stakeholders managed to reach a mutually beneficial agreement regarding the repayment of VAT arrears, amounting to 13 million USD. By the end of the year, a meeting between state representatives particularly from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Ministry of Industrialization and Trade, and members of the GEFP concluded with positive outcomes. The State and the GEFP agreed on the terms for repaying these arrears, with concrete solutions that will require careful monitoring moving forward.

During these negotiations, Minister Ralambofiringa reiterated the government’s support for the private sector. Several aspects related to the improvement of the business climate and the collaboration between the government and private entities were also highlighted, aimed at fostering an effective dynamic and synergy.
