40,000 civil servants affected by this measure
It’s official! Starting at the end of June, civil servants involved in a Sunday « rotation system » will receive double pay.
Parliament is set to vote on the new pay scale for civil servants, following the first reading of the bill during the last parliamentary session. The government plans to allocate 493 million USD to more than five ministries to support this measure, which includes Sunday allowances for civil servants.
Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced this measure in his last New Year’s message. He stated that civil servants and employees in essential services, such as the police and fire department, who work on a rotation system will receive double pay on Sundays. This policy aligns with the Labor Code, which already mandates double pay for all employees working on Sundays, affecting over 40,000 civil servants.
