Welcome reception for the new Australian High Commissioner

Strengthening collaboration between Mauritius and Australia

A welcome reception was organized by the Australian High Commissioner on Thursday, March 28, 2024, in honor of the new Australian High Commissioner to Mauritius, Mrs. Kate Chamley. The event, held at the Suffren Hotel & Marina in Port Louis, was graced by the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

Among the distinguished attendees were the Deputy Prime Minister, Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, Mr. Maneesh Gobin, as well as members of the government, private sector, civil society, and the Australian community.

In her address, the Australian High Commissioner highlighted the natural partnership between Mauritius and Australia, both island nations in the Indian Ocean with diverse, multicultural societies. She emphasized shared values in supporting political, economic, and religious freedoms, democracy, the rule of law, racial and gender equality, and mutual respect.

Mrs. Chamley underscored critical areas of collaboration, including trade, education, climate change, youth leadership, blue economy, and maritime security, as avenues for further cooperation between both countries.
