Launch of a steering committee for growth
On 10 March 2025, the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ebene hosted a major workshop entitled: Rethinking the future of the financial services sector.
The Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Jyoti Jeetun announced the creation of a steering committee supervised by the Prime Minister’s office. This committee will be responsible for implementing the initiatives proposed during the workshop to strengthen the financial sector in Mauritius.
During her opening speech, Jeetun stressed the main objective of this event: to create a common vision for the future of the financial services sector. The official recalled the remarkable transformation of the sector over the last 30 years, highlighting that it had evolved from a simple offshore industry to a key pillar of the country’s economy. Thus, she also highlighted the role of the government in facilitating policy decisions.
The objective is to increase the industry’s contribution to Mauritius’ gross domestic product from 13-15% to 20%. This increase would aim to consolidate Mauritius’ role as a dynamic and resilient financial centre, by strengthening its positioning on the international scene.
Jyoti Jeetun also spoke of the need to leverage the expertise of the Mauritian diaspora to support this growth. « This international community represents a valuable reservoir of ideas and investments that could propel the sector to new heights », she added.
The event brought together several influential personalities, including the Deputy Minister of Finance, Dhaneshwar Damry, and the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Rama Sithanen. These leaders participated in discussions on the roadmap to ensure a prosperous future for the sector.
