Enabling Citizens to Reap the Rewards of Their Hard Work
Seychelles’ 2025 budget proposes a 7 % monthly minimum wage increase for civil servants earning less than 21,368 SCR (1,500 USD ), alongside a similar increase in the national minimum wage starting April 1 of the following year.
On Thursday, Finance, National Planning, and Trade Minister Naadir Hassan presented this budget, seeking support from the National Assembly for a proposed 880 million USD the largest budget in Seychelles’ history. This represents an 11.9 % increase over the 2024 budget, which was set at 731 million USD.
According to Hassan, this budget aims to allow citizens to enjoy the benefits of their dedicated work while investing in economic and social infrastructure to ensure long-term well-being. He explained that of the projected revenue, « we estimate that in 2025, 735 million USD will come from tax revenue, representing 85 % of our total projected income. Additionally, we plan to collect 132 million USD from non-tax revenue and 32 million USD in subsidies. This total reflects an increase of 95 million USD or 11.7 % compared to the revised 2024 budget ».
To make financing more accessible to farmers, the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) program will be revised in 2025. The opposition leader, Sébastien Pillay of the Seychelles United Party, is expected to respond to the budget proposal in a speech next week.
