Importation of 11,000 Tons of Rice

Reducing rice prices

The port of Toliara recently received 11,000 tons of Eagle rice imported by the Malagasy government from Pakistan.

In addition to this rice shipment, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) announced the arrival of another 10,000-ton shipment next week. Jocelyn Richard Razafinimaro, Regional Director of Industrial Development and Commerce (DRIC) for the Southwest, stated that a decrease in rice prices in the Southwest region is expected due to the current stock levels.

It’s important to note that 4,000 tons of rice had already been delivered to the port of Taolagnaro as of September 24. This move by the MIC assures that rice stocks in the Southwest region are more than sufficient, eliminating any risk of shortage for at least the next two months.

The government has confirmed that rice imports will continue until December if necessary. Market prices will also be influenced by the influx of local « Tsipala » rice during this time of year, particularly in the Anôsy region.
