Madagascar collaborates with the United Arab Emirates
The inauguration of the first Malagasy gold refinery will be realized through a partnership with the United Arab Emirates. President Andry Rajoelina announced this milestone during his address at the 13th edition of the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) in Abu Dhabi.
Although further details on the collaboration were not provided at the time, the project to establish a gold refinery in Madagascar will be executed in partnership with the United Arab Emirates. Operations for this mining infrastructure are scheduled to commence by 2025, as outlined during the presentation of the General Policy of the State (GPS) earlier this year.
According to the Malagasy Prime Minister, the establishment of this gold refinery aims to process the gold extracted from Malagasy soil into monetary gold and gold bars within Madagascar before legal exportation abroad, ensuring compliance with international standards. Furthermore, this achievement aligns with the state’s objective of exporting 15 tons of gold annually. The General Policy also underscores plans to prioritize the artisanal exploitation of this mineral resource, positioning Madagascar among the major gold-producing countries in Africa within a few years.
