Following the Government Council meeting, Achraf Fayda has officially been named the Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). He succeeds Adel El Fakir, who stepped down in June to head the National Airports Authority (ONDA).
This appointment concludes months of interim leadership at the ONMT, which plays a strategic role in promoting Morocco as a global tourist destination and boosting its tourism sector—a vital pillar of the nation’s economy. Fayda’s career background in the agribusiness sector makes his selection an unexpected choice.
Fayda, a graduate in management, began his career in 2003 at the multinational Coca-Cola, where he held leadership roles for nearly a decade. In 2022, he joined Centrale Danone, serving in key positions until his recent appointment as ONMT’s Director General.
Fayda takes on his new role amid significant challenges for the tourism sector. His appointment reflects the government’s confidence in his ability and expertise to lead ONMT toward new opportunities and drive the sector’s growth.
