Donald Payen takes over as President of the Mauritius Tourism Office
Following the approval of the Council of Ministers of Mauritius during its meeting on March 24, 2023, Donald Payen was appointed president of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), the Mauritius Tourism Office.
As president, Donald Payen will support Arvind Bundhun, director of the MTPA, in implementing innovative strategies to promote Mauritius as a world-renowned tourist destination, particularly to emerging new markets.
With a 41-year career at Air Mauritius, the national airline, Donald Payen is recognized as one of the most respected professionals in the Mauritius tourism industry. Before retiring, he held various positions within the company, including Sales Director and Vice President in charge of operations and communication. Since August 2020, Donald Payen has served as senior advisor to Mauritius’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism. In recognition of his commitment, he was honored in August 2022 with the British Empire Medal during a ceremony at Westminster House.
Donald Payen’s official assumption of office as president occurred on April 3, 2023. He expressed his gratitude for the renewed trust in him, highlighting his stints on the Tourism Office Board of Directors since his first appointment in 2003. He also paid tribute to his predecessors and all those who have contributed to making tourism an essential economic pillar for Mauritius. « Our priority remains to return to the level of activity we had before the pandemic. We will strive to achieve this goal in the true spirit of public/private partnership under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, which remains the cornerstone of our modus operandi at the MTPA », said Donald Payen, rejoicing at this news.
