In a strategic move aimed at bolstering its efforts within the fisheries sector, the Government of Seychelles has appointed Dr. Jan Robinson as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Seychelles Fisheries Authority, effective October 16, 2023.
Dr. Robinson brings to his new position a wealth of academic achievement and practical experience in fisheries science and management. He holds a PhD in Coral Reef Studies from James Cook University, Australia, an MSc in Applied Marine Science from the University of Plymouth, UK, and a BSc in Marine Biology from the University of Wales, Swansea, UK. With over 27 years of dedicated service in the field, Dr. Robinson’s expertise is poised to make a significant impact on Seychelles’ fisheries landscape.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Dr. Robinson served as Head of Research at the Seychelles Fisheries Authority from 2001 to 2011. During this time, he led various initiatives aimed at enhancing understanding and management practices within the fisheries sector. His notable contributions include serving as Project Leader of the Shared Growth Project and Coordinator of a project focused on improving the tuna purse seine fishery in the Indian Ocean.
Dr. Robinson’s appointment reflects the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable fisheries practices and ensuring the long-term viability of Seychelles’ marine resources. His extensive background and leadership skills position him as a valuable asset in driving forward the objectives of the Seychelles Fisheries Authority and advancing the nation’s fisheries management agenda.
