Madagascar : Urban cable car soon to be operational

Technical and safety testing underway for cables and cabins

Expected before June 26, the cable car in Antananarivo is beginning to take shape. Since yesterday, the cable connecting Soarano to Anosy has been traversed by four passenger-free cabins. This is an initial test and calibration step that proves to be satisfactory.

Residents of Tananarive witnessed the movement of cable car cabins as technical and safety tests commenced. Over the next few days, the cables and cabins will undergo rigorous testing to ensure functionality and safety standards are met, allowing technicians to make necessary adjustments and calibrations.

During the test phase, four cabins, resembling pods, completed a round trip at a test speed of 4 meters per second. Upon completion of adjustments, the 27 cabins are expected to reach a cruising speed of 22 km/h. Concurrently, load tests continue with a weight of 900 kg per cabin.

The urban cable car project in Antananarivo is nearing completion, with the installation of pylons and cables underway. Pending final approvals, the 27 cabins are poised for launch. Additionally, progress is underway on cable transport implementation works for the Soarano, Ivandry, and Ambatobe lines, with expectations for operational readiness by year-end, as per estimates from SENVH.
