A revolution in freight transport in the Big Island
On April 25, 2025, during President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit, Madagascar signed an air transport agreement.
The Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Valéry Ramonjavelo, and Sébastien Bougon, President of Flying Whales Service, formalized this partnership. This agreement provides for the introduction of the LCA60T, an aircraft capable of transporting up to 60 tons of goods without the need for heavy ground infrastructure. This project aims to facilitate access to Madagascar’s landlocked areas and strengthen the country’s position as a logistics center in the Indian Ocean.
For the Malagasy government, this partnership is a priority. The agreement aims to improve freight transport, particularly in the energy and health sectors, modernize existing airports, promote more sustainable transport, and create new jobs.
The signing ceremony was attended by several ministries, including those of Industry, Energy, Public Works, Fisheries and Maritime Transport, as well as the Ministry of Population and Solidarity. The Directors General of the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology were also present.
