Tourist season 2024-2025 : Madagascar attracts the world

Improving international air connections

According to the Country Brand Ranking/Tourism Edition report, Madagascar is ranked among the 10 most attractive African countries for the 2024-2025 season. A significant influx of international tourists is already expected.

Tourism accounts for 13 % of Madagascar’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is one of the main sources of foreign currency and job creation. Ecotourism plays a crucial role in the country’s economy and deserves to be strengthened. In 2023, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts (MTA) recorded 259,850 arrivals in Madagascar, a figure close to pre-pandemic levels. Authorities aim to surpass this number by 2024.

Although arrivals are increasing, it is essential to continue efforts to reach the ambitious target of 400,000 tourists by the end of the year and one million by 2028. To attract more tourists, sector stakeholders encourage all parties to intensify their efforts, particularly by improving international air connections and renovating national roads and access routes to tourist areas.

In this regard, Madagascar Airlines has announced that it will strengthen its domestic fleet by adding a new aircraft, with two more planes planned for September and October. These initiatives and investments are crucial to enhancing Madagascar’s appeal as a top tourist destination. These measures should help the Big Island stand out globally, allowing it to capitalize on its immense potential in the tourism sector.
