Sustainable Tourism: The NGO TSF Supports Madagascar

Sharing Their Skills in the Field of Tourism

The NGO Tourism without Borders (TSF) is currently on a mission to Madagascar to bring its expertise in sustainable tourism. As part of this, the organization has signed two collaboration agreements, one with the Madagascar National Tourism Office (ONTM) and the other with the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts (MTA).

TSF’s experts, all volunteers, offer their skills without financial compensation. Their goal is to strengthen the capacities of the Malagasy tourism sector through strategic initiatives.

According to Danny Barivelo, the new executive director of the ONTM, this cooperation focuses on four key priorities. Firstly, it aims to strengthen the skills of regional tourism offices through specialized training in marketing and communication. Secondly, support will be provided for the quality approach in favor of sustainable tourism. Next, the partnership aims to encourage Malagasy stakeholders’ participation in international events to increase the country’s visibility. Finally, TSF will support the ONTM in the twinning and exchange of best practices with tourism offices in France.

« This cooperation offers numerous benefits for the country in terms of tourism promotion », emphasizes Ionjaniaina Ranaivoarimanana, Chairman of the ONTM.

An essential aspect of this agreement is the ongoing training of tourism and handicraft professionals, provided over a renewable one-year period. « This program is crucial to improving local skills and sustainably structuring the tourism offer », notes Eric Razafimaitra, Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Regional Tourism Office of Mahajanga.

Additionally, the agreement signed with the MTA aims to stimulate the growth of tourism and handicrafts in Madagascar. This two-year program intends to engage professionals and local communities to develop a more inclusive and sustainable sector.

With these initiatives, Madagascar is strengthening its position on the international tourism scene while relying on responsible and supportive practices.
