Continuous improvement of skills in tourism

Viviane Dewa, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, recently awarded certificates to 204 participants of the Miatrika training program in Taolagnaro.

The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts’ ambitious goal of attracting one million tourists in four years requires an improvement in the services provided by professionals working in the sector. This is why the Miatrika training program aims to enhance skills in the Tourism, Hospitality, and Restaurant (THR) sectors in Madagascar. It’s important to remember that training and professionalization in these sectors are part of the Ministry’s seven strategic priorities to boost tourism.

The Miatrika program has 204 participants, including 45 tour guides and 159 tourism and hospitality workers. Each individual received training in French and English, housekeeping management methods, and orientation techniques. So far, the Anosy region has held 50 training sessions, with other regions also preparing to issue certificates. These initiatives reflect a sustained commitment to skill development at the national level.

Beyond this skill enhancement, in the Analanjirofo region, licenses for tourism operators and certificates of recognition for artisans were issued during the local celebration of World Tourism Day. This shows that the Ministry places great importance on formalizing all those working in the tourism industry.
