The Indian Ocean Captivates Luxury Cruise Travelers
Réunion Island is experiencing remarkable growth in the cruise sector.
In 2024, the region recorded a sharp increase in cruise traffic. According to a statement from the Vanilla Islands organization, 43,214 passengers visited the island during 33 stopovers, compared to 22,020 passengers in 2023. This surge highlights the growing appeal of the Indian Ocean for luxury and expedition cruise ships.
This momentum is driven by an ambitious regional strategy, benefiting Réunion Island. Moreover, the season, which runs from November to April, is still ongoing, and forecasts remain promising.
Additionally, the sector is bolstered by investments in port infrastructure. Pascal Viroleau, Director of the Vanilla Islands, emphasizes that these investments reflect a strong commitment to the industry. Furthermore, collaboration with the Indian Ocean Islands Ports Association (APIOI) plays a crucial role. A joint marketing study continues to enhance the region’s attractiveness.
Perspectives for the remainder of the year remain optimistic. As a result, the Indian Ocean is solidifying its status as a prime destination for luxury and expedition cruises.
