Mauritius: Attracting more Indian tourists

Strategic Meeting to Strengthen Attractiveness

On April 7, 2025, a meeting chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Richard Duval, took place in Port Louis.

This event brought together representatives from Air Mauritius, Indian airlines, and key stakeholders in the tourism sector to discuss ways to attract more tourists from India. This market, still under-tapped since the recovery from the pandemic, represents significant potential for the country.

The Minister reiterated that India is an important market for Mauritius. Duval added that the arrival of new airlines could improve connectivity and attract even more visitors. Indeed, according to figures from January and February 2025, Mauritius saw a 13.4% increase in the number of Indian tourists compared to the same period in 2024.

Despite these encouraging results, several challenges remain. These include competition, last-minute bookings, limited hotel availability, and high airfare and accommodation prices. The official emphasized the need to create attractive packages, launch promotional campaigns in India, and collaborate with various industry stakeholders.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to highlight the strong historical and cultural ties between the two countries, paving the way for deeper cooperation in tourism development.
