Luxury hotel industry : Renovation of the 5-star hotel in Ivato

Tender launched by the state

In August 2025, the Grande Île (Madagascar) will be ready to host the 45th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the SADC. The five-star hotel in Ivato is one of the selected establishments to accommodate these leaders during this occasion, but it needs to be brought up to standard.

President Andry Rajoelina affirmed this during a site visit on Friday. He mentioned having noticed previous management issues with the establishment. However, the President assured that the hotel would be renovated as soon as possible tohost the leaders of the SADC member countries by 2025.

Considered the jewel of business tourism in the Grande Île, the Ivato International Hotel has been thriving for many years. In 2008, the hotel was built to host the 13th African Union Summit in 2009, but the event was transferred to Sirte in Libya. Since 2021, this establishment has been under the management of the State after years of stagnation. A tender was recently launched by the State to find partners for the operation of this hotel, which covers 27,000 square meters. At the end of May, the Minister of Tourism announced that several companies had already expressed interest in managing the Ivato International Hotel.

Numerous companies and investors have already responded to the tender. According to the Minister, some have already visited the site, as mentioned during an interview with the press at the Ivato International Conference Center.
