Internet Connection Restored to 90% in Mayotte

Collaboration with the prefecture to resolve the issue

Following Cyclone Chido, several malfunctions affected the internet network. After several weeks of work, the telecom operator announced that it had restored the connection for 90 % of Mayotte’s inhabitants.

The internet connection was disrupted, and Mahorans living abroad struggled to obtain information about their families. During this period, the operator announced in a statement that « 99 % of its fixed internet customers were disconnected ». The power outage caused the shutdown of 51 mobile network stations. The operator’s staff worked closely with the prefecture to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

More than twenty days later, network coverage in Mayotte has reached 90 %. This return to normalcy required a significant mobilization of the operator’s technical teams. Now, all municipalities in Mayotte, from Pamandzi to Mtsamboro, including Mamoudzou and Koungou, have internet access. This announcement represents significant progress in restoring communications on the island.

However, the operator notes that service quality may fluctuate depending on the number of users connected simultaneously, particularly in areas where the network was most impacted. Therefore, connection issues may arise during peak activity periods.
