Seychelles and UNIDO Collaborate on Climate

A Parliamentary Forum to Attract Climate Finance

The President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the environment and sustainable development on March 14, 2025.

During a meeting at State House, a delegation from the Climate Parliaments and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), led by Sergio Missana, discussed climate challenges and financing solutions with Seychellois representatives.

This visit is part of the Parliamentary Forum on Climate Finance, supported by the Green Climate Fund. The event brings together ministers, international investors, and members of the Parliament on Climate to discuss financing opportunities in the renewable energy and sustainable tourism sectors.

« We must promote the natural beauty of Seychelles and our environmental initiatives », stressed President Ramkalawan, emphasizing the need to attract funding to preserve the environment while supporting economic growth.

The discussions highlighted the specific challenges facing Seychelles, which is particularly exposed to the effects of climate change. The development of clean energy and sustainable tourism is a priority to ensure a more resilient future.

Waven William, a member of the Parliamentary Steering Committee on Climate in the National Assembly, reiterated the importance of rapid resource mobilization. According to him, « It is essential to exploit every opportunity so that the country can benefit from environmentally friendly and innovative projects ». Sergio Missana, for his part, emphasized the importance of close collaboration. « Seychelles is a model for carbon neutrality, and this partnership aims to strengthen this commitment », he stated.

These discussions are opening up new financing opportunities to support the country’s environmental ambitions.
