Blue economy for inclusive and sustainable growth
The National Blue Economy Days (JNEB), held in Toamasina, explored the challenges and opportunities presented by the responsible exploitation of marine and coastal resources in Madagascar.
This economic event, themed « The Blue Economy : A Path to Inclusive Development for Sustainable Growth in Madagascar », brought together a variety of participants, including public representatives, private sector actors, NGOs, researchers, and young entrepreneurs. Key topics discussed during the conferences included sustainable fishing, aquaculture, coastal tourism, maritime transport, and integrated coastal zone management in the face of climate change. These discussions highlighted the essential role of the blue economy in driving inclusive and sustainable growth. Contributions from local and international experts further enriched the discussions.
The conference’s conclusion was a pivotal moment, gathering specialists to discuss the theme of « Sustainable Blue Economy for Africa’s Development ». The need for a sustainable approach to increase African production was emphasized by the Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy.
During the event, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy (MPEB) and the OPJEB signed a memorandum of understanding. Additionally, the Réfrigépêche/Varuna project was launched, aimed at improving the fishing value chain while preserving ecosystems.
