Climate Change : Conference on the Challenges of Small Island States

Addressing environmental threats

The inaugural annual conference of the Centre for Indo-Oceanic Territorial Development Studies (CEDTI) will be held from November 26 to 28, 2024, at the French Institute of Mauritius in Rose-Hill.

Titled « Water in All Its Insular Aspects », this event will bring together experts from around the world. Its goal is to examine the challenges and propose solutions to the environmental and climate threats faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Led by Dr. Farrah Jahangeer, CEDTI is the first autonomous research organization focused on sustainable urban development in the Indian Ocean region.

Following the « Our Future – Africa-Europe Dialogues » forum hosted by the French Institute of Mauritius in November 2023, this conference is considered a pioneering initiative. CEDTI’s development is supported by funding from the French Equipment Fund (FEF). SIDS is characterized by unique natural environments and vulnerable ecosystems, making it crucial to implement timely and effective solutions to address the disastrous impacts of climate change on water-related issues.

« This conference aims to foster knowledge transfer and identify innovative methods to build the resilience of our territories », stated Dr. Farrah Jahangeer. The CEDTI initiative is supported by the French Institute of Mauritius, along with the French Embassy in Mauritius and the French Institute of Mauritius (IFM), which have backed the center since its inception through the Our Future forum.
