United States is funding this project
Madagascar will receive 41 million USD in financial aid over five years to support projects focused on preserving terrestrial and marine ecosystems and improving environmental management.
The United States, through its Agency for International Development (USAID), is enhancing its commitment to land and sea conservation and environmental management. At the launch event in Ivandry, the funding allocation was announced to have doubled, leading to 41 million USD being dedicated to preserving and managing terrestrial and marine environments.
Several private organizations, in collaboration with the Ministries of Environment and Fisheries, will implement these programs. The « Harena » initiative aims to consolidate the preservation of protected terrestrial areas and support adjacent communities benefiting from them. The « Riake » project, led by the Coastal Resources Center of the University of Rhode Island, focuses on ocean protection and emphasizes preserving sensitive marine areas to enhance marine biodiversity. The third project, dedicated to improving environmental governance, will be executed by the Voahary Gasy Alliance.
American Ambassador Claire A. Pierangelo stated: « By implementing these three new projects, the U.S. government is doubling its investment in Madagascar’s environment and reinforcing its unwavering commitment to the sustainable preservation and management of Madagascar’s invaluable biodiversity and natural resources ».
