Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Development by 2030
An ambitious project to promote sustainable and inclusive development by 2030 has been launched with the initiation of territorial planning workshops for Ndzuani and Ngazidja.
On Friday, December 20, the Ulanga Mali Project was officially presented. During this meeting, the Territorial Development Plan (Sat) for the island was also introduced. Spanning six years and concluding in 2030, the project is co-financed by 19.6 million EUR from the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union.
Ndzuani faces critical challenges regarding its development and sustainability. The Ulanga Mali Project aims to design a tailored territorial development plan for the island. During the workshop, Salami Issouf, the delegate in charge of Territorial Development, praised the initiative: « I would like to thank those who initiated this project. It is part of the Emerging Comoros Plan, which emphasizes development in its action program ». The delegate, who collaborates closely with the island’s governor, highlighted the significance of Sat for municipalities.
According to Mohamed Abdou, Director of Territorial Development, Urban Planning, and Housing, the Ulanga Mali Project aligns with the Ministry of Territorial Development’s action plan and the Emerging Comoros Plan (PCE). « Each island must be equipped with a Sat that integrates economic, social, and environmental aspects, identifying areas designated for specific activities or preservation », he explained.
