Extension of Bangoma port : Egyptian expertise at work
On Tuesday, January 23, the Comorian government signed a contract with Arabic Contractors to construct and expand Bangoma Port in Mohéli.
The ceremony for the Bangoma Port extension and construction project honored the presence of Comoros Minister of Air and Maritime Transport, Bianrifi Tharmidhi, alongside various local government officials. This joins the Comoros delegation with the Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, CEO of The Arabic Contractors, Mr. Ahmed Mostafa Mohamed Elasar, and members of the company’s Board of Directors. Transport Minister Bianrifi Tarmid expressed joy, stating, « The presence of the Egyptian delegation in the Comoros demonstrates the friendship between the two countries. This contract is significant for our country’s development, especially in maritime transport ».
This substantial construction project, valued at 60 million EUR, is co-financed by the African Development Bank, the French Development Agency, and the Islamic Development Bank. The construction aligns with the Comoros Emergent initiative, fostering connectivity among the islands, and easing the mobility of people and goods.
« The extension of Bangoma Port represents a strategic project », affirmed Dr. Assem El-Gazzar. The CEO of The Arabic Contractor emphasized that Bangoma Port will evolve into a vital maritime center, fortifying the country’s trade links. The construction site is scheduled to be established within a month. Additional secondary ports is planned as part of this transformative project.
