Ravinala Airports invests to boost air traffic in Madagascar

Ravinala Airports is embarking on an ambitious program to modernize the Antananarivo and Nosy Be airports, with an investment of 23.57 million EUR.

The objective is to improve the quality of infrastructure and streamline air traffic in order to accommodate 200,000 additional passengers by 2025. This project is part of the desire to reach one million tourists by 2028, according to Sandrine Rahantamalala, the company’s communications manager.

Antananarivo International Airport will benefit from a budget oF 12.57 million EUR, of which EUR 11.47 million EUR will be devoted to the renovation of the aeronautical pavements and tarmacs. In partnership with TotalÉnergies and ASECNA, this project aims to improve runway safety and optimize aircraft parking.

The works will be carried out in several phases. The first and second phases of Tarmac 1 will run from January to July 2025, while the third phase is yet to be planned. For Tarmac 2, the renovations will take place between May and September 2025.

In addition, an envelope of EUR 1.1 million EUR is dedicated to the renovation of the domestic terminal. This project aims to improve passenger comfort, with a capacity increasing from 120 to 216 passengers per hour and a boarding lounge doubling in size. The temporary transfer of domestic departures to the old international terminal is planned for June 2025, before the opening of the new terminal in October 2025.

Currently, Antananarivo airport welcomes approximately 900,000 passengers per year. Thanks to the work in progress, this provision should increase to 1.1 million by 2025. « We hope that the national company Malagasy Airlines will be able to keep its six aircraft operational in order to support this growth », announces Daniel Lefebvre, General Manager of the company.
