Improving living conditions for Mauritians
The Budget 2024-2025 demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing suitable housing for vulnerable families.
Through various measures announced by the Minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy, the Government of Mauritius is taking decisive steps to enhance housing infrastructure capacity. In locations such as Pointe aux Piments, Réunion Maurel, Valetta, Camp Ithier, Olivia, Mare d’Albert, Grand Bel Air, Souillac, Bambous, Hermitage, Henrietta, Malherbes, La Source, and Camp Levieux, Padayachy has highlighted the completion of 1,850 units by September 2024. An additional 1,800 units are slated for completion by December 2024, with the remaining units scheduled for delivery by June 2025, aiming for a total of 8,000 units built by that time.
Among other government initiatives, the National Housing Development Company (NHDC) plans to finalize 223 units in Valletta by June 2024. Additionally, 546 new social housing units will be constructed at Camp Ithier, Quatre Cocos, Solitude, Henrietta, Melrose, Sébastopol, Souillac, and Wootton. These measures collectively aim to enhance the living conditions of many Mauritians and foster a more inclusive and equitable society.
