Youth of the Indianocean : Platform for Leaders

Launch of the Indianocean Youth Parliament

The Association of Parliaments of Member States of the Indian Ocean Commission (AP-COI), in partnership with national parliaments and with the support of the General Secretariat of the IOC, announces the launch of a call for applications. The goal is to form the first cohort of the Regional Youth Parliament.

This project, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and supported by the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, aims to promote youth participation in regional debates.

The Regional Youth Parliament brings together leaders from Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, and Reunion Island. Their mission is to debate major issues affecting the Indianocean region, such as political, economic, environmental, and social challenges. They also have the opportunity to strengthen their skills in diplomacy, public speaking, and political analysis, while advocating for youth rights.

Each country designates six volunteer representatives between 18 and 25 years old, for a two-year mandate. This assembly offers an unprecedented space for dialogue and exchange among participants in the region. The first session will take place in Seychelles in April 2025.

The National Assembly of Mauritius invites citizens residing in Mauritius or within the IOC area to apply before February 28. Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the official website of the Indian Ocean Commission. Through this initiative, the AP-COI encourages a new generation of leaders to engage in managing regional challenges and to assert the voice of youth in political decision-making.
