Comoros Hydrocarbons Company: A reinforced protocol to ensure fuel quality

On February 18, the Comorian Hydrocarbon Society (Sch), in collaboration with the Comorian Consumers Federation (Fcc) and the National Drivers Union (Usukani wa Masiwa), held a press conference.

The objective is to address concerns about fuel quality and to propose solutions to address vehicle failures. In response to growing concerns, the company is announcing a strengthened verification protocol. Three fuel samples are sealed in the presence of representatives of the Fcc and Usukani wa Masiwa. These organizations can assist in the delivery of future cargoes of fuel, thus ensuring transparency on the origin and quality of the products, despite their limits of expertise.

Ahmed Soudjay Kifia, who is in charge of missions to the Sch’s Director General, says that a survey is carried out for each vehicle that has failed, in order to identify the causes and the service stations involved. A joint brigade is also being established to carry out unannounced inspections at service stations, although questions remain about the legality of this initiative. Ibrahim Mohamed Moumini, environmentalist at the Sch, stresses the importance of rigorous maintenance of tanks and car tanks, saying that the fuel must be decanted before it can be marketed.

While the Fcc welcomes the Sch’s commitment to transparency, it also calls for an independent counter-investigation to determine the origin of the outages. The trade union Usukani wa Masiwa is calling for those responsible for the failures to be identified and for issues of compensation for drivers to be clarified. The Sch expresses its openness to participate in a second opinion, provided that it is rigorously supervised to guarantee objective results.
