More than one billion euros for reconstruction
On January 31, 2025, a convention was signed between the Minister of Overseas Territories and the President of Mayotte. This agreement marks a turning point in the rehabilitation of the territory. More than one billion euros will be mobilized to restore infrastructure and support vulnerable families.
During his official visit to Mayotte on January 31, 2025, the Minister of Overseas Territories signed an agreement with President Ben Issa Ousséni, in the presence of local elected officials and competent authorities. This document marks a decisive step for the recovery of the territory. Indeed, funding of more than one billion euros will be allocated for the rehabilitation of essential infrastructure and buildings.
The department of Mayotte will thus receive grants and subsidized loans to restore its structures. Additionally, the Fondation de France will provide support to help the most vulnerable families. Partial funding from the Housing Solidarity Fund (FASAAL) will be ensured, in accordance with the request of the elected officials to maintain a portion of French donations for reconstruction purposes.
The convention also plans for the creation of a public establishment dedicated to rehabilitation, with full participation from the department. This partnership will ensure optimal coordination between the State and local authorities.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating the work, promising a more serene future for the territory. Ben Issa Ousséni, for his part, welcomed this initiative. He called it a true roadmap for the steps to come.
