Recurring issue
Tananarivo is facing a water supply crisis, necessitating priority projects to finalize essential infrastructure and address shortages. This includes the provision of water jugs and the deployment of water trucks.
The challenge of water supply in the capital is a recurring issue. During a technical meeting at the headquarters of PAAEP (Project for Improving Access to Drinking Water in Madagascar), the completion of short-term water supply infrastructure work was discussed. This meeting brought together key stakeholders such as Jirama, Jirama Water III, and the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (MEAH). The idea was to update on current projects and outline projections for 2025.
This year, initiatives aimed at establishing water treatment plants in Amoronakona and strengthening the water production station in Faralaza, intended for the northwest sector of Greater Tana, are considered priorities. As part of the Tana Water III project, this treatment plant in Amoronakona, with a capacity of 50,000 m³, provides a solution to the water problem and facilitates access to drinking water.
This meeting marked the launch of essential projects for water access in Madagascar. Numerous topics were addressed, with some projects starting or continuing next month. This marks the beginning of tangible actions to improve water and sanitation access in the country. The implementation of these initiatives is crucial for residents facing water supply issues. Currently, the capital faces a water supply deficit of 100,000 m³.
