China Supports the Modernization of the SBC

A Symbol of Sino-Seychellois Cooperation

On March 18, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles Lin Lan officially handed over the new headquarters of the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) located in Union Vale.

At the ceremony, Lin Lan emphasized the importance of the broadcasting industry, which she described as « a driving force for social progress and cultural development ». « Broadcasting plays a key role in disseminating information, preserving cultural heritage, and providing social services », she said, marking a significant milestone in relations between the two nations.

Subsidized by China, the construction project began in April 2019, under the supervision of Hunan No.6 Engineering Co. Ltd. Although delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other technical challenges, the new headquarters was successfully completed and meets the highest standards. The site houses three specialized blocks for the radio station, television studios, and administrative offices, all equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

The ceremony was attended by Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan and Vice President Ahmad Afif. « This is a rapidly evolving sector, and we are proud of this modern advancement », said the Vice President, expressing his gratitude to China for its support. Ahmad Afif added that the new facility would enhance the SBC’s ability to fulfill its mission.

The ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate the strong ties between the two countries, with cultural performances showcasing traditional dances and songs. Guests in attendance included government officials and representatives of the Association for the Promotion of Friendship between the Two Nations.
