Alternating traffic in Mamoudzou

New traffic regulations to improve traffic

Starting February 24, 2025, the municipality of Mamoudzou in Mayotte is implementing new alternating traffic regulations, which will apply from Monday to Thursday, excluding public holidays.

Passenger vehicles will have to respect this measure according to the parity of their license plate: odd-numbered plates will be allowed to circulate on Mondays and Wednesdays, while even-numbered plates will be authorized on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m.

This initiative aims to reduce congestion on main roads such as National Road 1, National Road 2 and Departmental Road 3. In order to encourage more sustainable travel, the municipality encourages residents to adopt alternative means of transport, such as carpooling, shared taxis and free shuttles, while promoting walking and cycling.

Exemptions will be granted for certain categories of drivers, including residents of Mamoudzou, emergency service professionals and people with reduced mobility, upon presentation of supporting documents. In addition, the crossing of Mamoudzou for residents of Petite Terre will be limited to access to areas outside the alternating traffic perimeter on Grande Terre.

In collaboration with CADEMA, the city hopes to improve the quality of life of residents while smoothing traffic flow until July 10, 2025.
