Strengthening collaborations with the private sector
Japanese companies plan to expand their operations in Africa. The TICAD 9 platform will be ideal for fostering exchanges between African governments and businesses, as well as their Japanese counterparts.
Africa offers numerous business opportunities, and Japanese companies intend to strengthen their collaborations with the private sector and African enterprises. The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which will take place in Yokohama in August 2025, will be an important occasion to promote exchanges between public authorities and African businesses, as well as their Japanese counterparts.
The Great Island (Madagascar) is one of Japan’s main economic partners in Africa. Ambatovy is one of the largest Japanese investment projects on the continent, led by the Madagascar Mining Company, in which a Japanese company is the principal shareholder.
During her tour of Africa, Yoko Kamikawa, Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, specifically highlighted the importance of this investment in the economic relations between the two countries. Madagascar, which has abundant mineral resources, is striving to use these resources optimally. This implies that Madagascar also plays a crucial role in Japan’s economic security. This project is significant not only for Japan but also for the Malagasy economy.
