Import – Export : Significant Customs Revenues

78 % of clearance procedures completed in less than three hours

The update of the customs administration is yielding positive results. In addition to notable revenue performance, the reduction in time required for clearance is also remarkable.

After five years of modernization, all indicators are now favorable at the level of the General Directorate of Customs. According to Lainkana Zafivanona, Director General of Customs, during a press conference held in Antaninarenina, the daily revenue has reached an unprecedented level of 12 billion MGA (2.5 million USD). This service has thus managed to achieve 101 % of the goals set by the finance law.

« And this goal continues to increase for the year 2025. We plan to generate two billion ariary more each day, to reach a daily revenue of 14 billion MGA », says Lainkana Zafivanona.

This achievement represents the fruit of five years of reforms within the customs service, which have been aimed at streamlining and speeding up the process while ensuring security. Beyond revenue improvement, the most obvious benefit is mainly for users, thanks to the reduction in time required for clearance. Today, 78 % of goods clearance procedures are completed in less than three hours.

The upgrade initiative of the customs administration includes a total of thirty-one projects, 80 % of which are already completed. These projects benefit from the support of various stakeholders, including donors, technical and financial partners, and the Malagasy government’s funds. Currently, each project is at 75 % completion rate.
