Import / Export: prioritizing the digitization of services

Facilitating procedures for importers and exporters

Madagascar ranks 134th in exports and 135th in imports among 195 countries worldwide. This underscores the significant role trade plays in the country’s economy, a fact emphasized by the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Efforts are underway to aid Malagasy importers and exporters by streamlining their procedures. The inauguration of the Madagascar Trade Information Portal (PICM) represents a significant stride in this direction, officially launched on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Carlton Anosy Hotel. This online platform now offers accessible information on all stages of trade procedures.

The PICM website stands as a government-initiated tool to bolster trade activities. Additionally, foreign trade, as estimated by the World Bank, contributes to a substantial 48.62% of Madagascar’s GDP. However, challenges persist, particularly concerning the acquisition of authorizations for key export commodities like vanilla, cloves, and other products.

According to the Minister of Industrialization and Trade, Edgard Razafindravahy, the PICM is the solution. What’s more, it’s also a means of combating corruption, « an online service, with no need to travel, which considerably reduces the risk of corruption », added the Minister.
