Gabon : Persis Lionel Essono Appointed New DG of FGIS

Following his appointment at the Council of Ministers on December 19, Persis Lionel Essono Ondo officially assumed the position of Director General of the Gabonese Strategic Investment Fund (FGIS). The inauguration ceremony, led by Patrick Christian Ebe, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and Participation, took place on December 26, 2024, at the headquarters of this state institution responsible for investments.

Persis Lionel Essono Ondo participated in this republican act in the presence of some colleagues and the outgoing Director General, Stéphane Mbadinga. A transition ceremony was held, allowing the new leader of this organization to acknowledge the work accomplished by his predecessor while setting the direction for the future.

Aware of the challenges and expectations from the leadership in terms of performance improvement, investment diversification, and optimization of the assets managed by FGIS, Persis Lionel Essono immediately set his priorities to achieve these goals. The new Director General stated: “We aim to implement our three-pronged strategy. Investments must be made strategically, benefit the country, and generate significant returns to fund the resources intended for future generations.”

Persis Lionel Essono, a banker by profession, has a decade of experience in the banking sector. He is an exceptional leader who has notably worked for Nexus Capital Market before reaching the position of Venture Partners Associate for the Auralp Ambition Export Investment Fund. Additionally, Lionel Essono Ondo is a co-founder and shareholder in an investment bank specializing in transnational investments.
