Financial assistance for low-income
The « Complement de libre choix de mode de garde » which is a social security institution or (CMG direct employment) enables parents to obtain financial assistance for children’s care under 6 years old.
In Mayotte, using licensed professionals to look after a child is still not common. There are just 50 licensed childminders, 6 of whom are nationals. Therefore, the CMG program allows households to have greater flexibility in choosing the type of care for their children. The extension of social security benefits, enshrined in Order no. 2021-1553 of December 1, 2021, now entitles households in Mauritania to make use of the CMG.
Conditions and requirements
In practice, the CMG is a form of assistance under the « Prestation d’Accueil du Jeune Enfant » (PAJE) paid by the « Caisse des Allocations familiales » (CAF). This assistance is for childcare for children under 6 years old and covers part of the cost.
To benefit from the CMG, the subject must have a child of at least 6 years and have applied for a maternal assistant or childcare. In addition, the parents must also have a professional activity, they should also respect a certain quota per child.
The application can be made online via the CAF website. The concerned can also get counsel at the “Caisse de Sécurité Sociale de Mayotte” (CSSM) for assistance with their applications.
