New Seychelles Hospital: Government sets out ambitious roadmap

On 4 March 2025, President Wavel Ramkalawan led a meeting with the New Seychelles Hospital Technical Committee to take stock of the progress of the project and define the next steps.

The objective was to ensure that the hospital, which will meet the country’s modern and quality healthcare needs, follows national priorities and meets international standards.

During this meeting, the committee presented the latest developments. This included the designation of a new site for construction. The land, located in Roche Caiman, adjacent to L’Escale Resort, was selected after extensive discussions. The committee also discussed various options to ensure that the new facility can offer efficient and high-quality healthcare services.

One of the key points discussed was the realization of the clinic concept, the design of which must be in line with public health priorities. In parallel, the committee worked on the terms of reference for the feasibility study. This will include an assessment of the technical, financial and operational aspects of the project.

A revised timeline was also presented, with upcoming highlights. Notably, the submission of the direct tender to the National Tender Board is scheduled for 11 March 2025. The feasibility study is expected to be completed by the end of June 2025, followed by the decision on the hospital design and financing in September 2025.

President Ramkalawan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the project, stressing the need for effective planning and strategies to ensure the success of this new infrastructure.
