Public health: France supports Madagascar with 5 million EUR

Public Health and Medicine Supply

Madagascar and France, through the French Development Agency (AFD), signed a 5 million USD grant agreement on March 20, 2025.

This budgetary support aims to strengthen the country’s macroeconomic stability and finance priority sectors, particularly health and food security. The amount will be distributed across three major areas of intervention: 1.5 million EUR for the SALAMA company, responsible for the supply of essential medicines; 1.5 million EUR for locust control; and 2 million EUR to support the food bank and school canteen program. This initiative is part of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program, thus validating Madagascar’s economic trajectory.

During the signing ceremony, Rindra Hasimbelo Rabarinirinarison, Minister of Economy and Finance, highlighted the importance of this partnership. For his part, Thani Mohamed Soilihi, Minister Delegate for Francophonie and International Partnerships, emphasized the importance of this funding in the face of the global food crisis.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Public Health, Professor Zely Arivelo Randriamanantany, the Secretary of State for Food Sovereignty, Tahian’Ny Avo Razanamahefa, and the French Ambassador to Madagascar, Arnaud Guillois.
