Increasing vaccination coverage
Influenza vaccination in Mayotte continues until January 31, 2025. Although it is generally considered a winter ailment, influenza also manifests during periods of heat and humidity. Health officials emphasize the need to protect against it.
In Mayotte, health officials highlight that many individuals experience influenza cases annually. Epidemics occur during periods of heat and humidity. Contrary to common misconceptions, cold weather is not necessary for its spread. The symptoms are well known: high fever, body aches, chills, and cough.
Vaccination remains the most effective method to reduce the risk of severe complications. It is strongly recommended for individuals aged 65 and over, as well as those with chronic conditions. These individuals benefit from comprehensive management of the vaccine and its administration. Vaccination vouchers can be obtained from healthcare professionals or at the CSSM reception. The Regional Health Agency and the Social Security Fund of Mayotte also urge healthcare professionals to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of the virus.
This vaccination campaign primarily aims to increase vaccination coverage. The 2023/2024 program only managed to immunize 1,645 individuals. According to local health authorities, this number does not guarantee effective protection against influenza. A more extensive vaccination coverage is deemed necessary.
