China donates medical equipment to Seychelles

Enhancing medical facilities

On Wednesday, Seychelles received a donation of medical equipment from a Chinese medical team currently stationed in the island nation, aimed at meeting the needs of Seychelles Hospital.

Dr. Zhuo Xiaoqing of the Chinese medical team stated, « This donation reflects the friendship between China and Seychelles and demonstrates our shared commitment to continuously improving the health of the Seychellois people ». The equipment includes devices used to monitor patients’ vital signs, operating room equipment, acupuncture tools, and more.

Acting Director General of the Health Agency, Dr. Jadhav Chandrashekhar, accepted the donation during the ceremony and expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support. « We appreciate this equipment donation, along with the future projects we have planned to continue developing the local health sector ». Chandrashekhar said.

Acting Director of Community Health Services Josapha Jouanneau explained that this equipment will complement what they already have. As part of a South-South cooperation project, China began sending medical teams to Seychelles in 1985. Over the past 38 years, 18 groups of 108 Chinese doctors from Shandong Province have served Seychellois patients with their medical expertise. The current team, which arrived in May 2023, is the 19th group sent to Seychelles.
