Towards more rigorous management of hydrocarbons
On March 6, a press conference was organized in Moroni to address the issue of the alleged defective quality of hydrocarbons distributed in the Comoros.
Nasra Mohamed Issa, President of the Comorian Consumer Federation (FCC), emphasized the need for collaboration between the FCC and the national union of drivers, Wusukani wa Masiwa, in order to find a solution to the problem.
Both organizations expressed concerns about the poor quality of fuel, which they believe is responsible for many vehicle breakdowns. As part of this approach, representatives of the two entities carried out an immersion within the Comorian Hydrocarbons Company (SCH) to assess the management of the supply and unloading of fuel.
A proposal was made for the creation of a tripartite committee, composed of the SCH, the FCC and the Wusukani wa Masiwa union, to ensure rigorous monitoring of the fuel delivered. However, the FCC expressed its dissatisfaction with the fact that the SCH had started discussions with the service stations without prior consultation with the parties concerned. « We have not had any feedback on this committee, while the situation persists », said the FCC Chairperson.
For its part, the SCH defended the quality of its fuel, saying that it complies with the standards in force. However, under pressure, the company agreed to provide samples for independent analysis. « We have secured the samples and contacted laboratories for in-depth testing », said Nasra Mohamed Issa. Athoumani Ali, Secretary General of the Wusukani wa Masiwa union, indicated that a meeting with the authorities would be organized soon to discuss the situation.
