Training and Research: A New Direction for the Partnership
Youth employability in the Comoros was the focus of discussions during the meeting on March 28, 2025, between the University of Réunion and a Comorian delegation.
Led by the Deputy Secretary General of the Comoros Ministry of National Education, this visit strengthens the already strong ties between the two institutions. They have been collaborating for several years in strategic areas such as law, energy, the environment, biodiversity, and volcanology.
With this in mind, the PROFI program, which aims to improve the professionalization of training, plays a key role. In response to the growing needs of the local economy, this project focuses on strengthening technical and vocational training in vital sectors such as agriculture, construction, public works, and the environment. This represents a major challenge in meeting the development challenges of the Comoros while effectively preparing young people for the job market.
The delegation also had the opportunity to meet with Comorian students benefiting from the REUNION II program, which allows 17 young people to continue their studies in Réunion Island. This program, funded by INTERREG VI Indian Ocean 2021-2027, symbolizes the University of Réunion Island’s commitment to training regional talent.
Beyond this local dimension, this partnership, supported by European programs such as ERASMUS+ and DOCET4 Africa, marks a turning point in regional academic cooperation. The objective is to establish a truly dedicated doctoral school and accelerate the internationalization of programs, while strengthening research in key sectors. Thanks to this dynamic, the University of Réunion Island is establishing itself as a key player in building a truly academic and scientific space in the Indian Ocean.
