National Education and WHO strengthen their cooperation

Combating Drugs and Tobacco in Schools

The Comorian Ministry of National Education is launching a training session on March 26th dedicated to combating drug and tobacco use in schools. Held at the Retaj Hotel, this workshop is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and aims to strengthen the prevention of addiction and school dropouts.

During his speech, the Secretary General of the Ministry, Saïd Soulé Saïd, emphasized the urgent need for intersectoral coordination to curb the proliferation of illicit substances in schools.

The Ministry is concerned about the impact of drug and alcohol use on academic success. Among the solutions considered, emphasis will be placed on prevention and support for students experiencing difficulties. The Ministry also seeks to collaborate with local authorities, parents, and neighborhood leaders to provide more effective support to vulnerable youth.

Present at the training, WHO representative Nkurunziza Triphonie recalled the dangers of smoking, a threat that kills more than 8 million people a year worldwide.
