Mayotte : School Adjustments After the Cyclone

Extension of Holidays and Rescheduling of School Exams

Following the aftermath of Cyclone Chido, the Ministry of National Education of Mayotte has modified the school calendar.

As schools prepare to reopen, the Ministry of National Education has announced several adjustments to support students and teachers during this disrupted period. The school holidays, initially scheduled from March 1st to March 10th, have been extended until March 17th. This extension aims to facilitate the repair and restoration of damaged school facilities.

In parallel, measures have been taken concerning school examinations. The ministry announces the suspension of the “brevet” exams (equivalent to junior high school diploma), as well as the specialty, philosophy, and early French exams of the baccalaureate. Final-year students (Terminale) will also have an extended deadline to register on Parcoursup, the national platform for higher education admissions.

Students enrolled in CAP (Certificate of Professional Competence) and BTS (Advanced Technician’s Certificate) will not take written exams; their results will be based on continuous assessment. Similarly, for vocational baccalaureate students, this continuous assessment will replace final exams or ongoing assessments, depending on their specialty. Regarding physical education and sports, the grades already obtained will be considered. If no assessment has been conducted, the subject will not be included in the final average.

These adjustments aim to minimize the impact of Cyclone Chido on students’ educational progress, ensuring fairness and continuity during this challenging time. The Ministry remains committed to supporting the academic journey of all students, and further updates may be provided as the situation develops.
