Towards training adapted to climate challenges
On February 1st, the Official Journal announced the creation of the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de La Réunion (ENSA-La Réunion). Its implementation is scheduled for March 1st.
This establishment marks a major advancement for architectural education on the island. Indeed, students will benefit from high-level training in the Indian Ocean.
Pierre Rosier, the school’s director, stated that « this official recognition constitutes a decisive turning point ». The institution becomes the 21st École nationale supérieure d’architecture in France, thus strengthening its place in the national educational landscape.
Furthermore, the new establishment reflects a desire to adapt education to tropical climates and societal challenges. Until now, the Reunion branch depended on ENSA-Montpellier. From now on, the acquired autonomy will allow the development of specific programs.
Additionally, the training will address the environmental and cultural specificities of the region. In this sense, Pierre Rosier emphasizes the goal of training architects capable of meeting contemporary challenges. Thus, sustainability and adaptation to tropical climates will be at the heart of education.
Moreover, the institution thanks the State, local authorities, institutions, and its partners for their support. Thanks to this collaboration, the project was able to come to fruition. The first students will be welcomed as of March. Ultimately, the ambition is to train innovative professionals aware of local issues.
